“The intersection of art & technology has been and continues to emerge as a discipline which has strong roots in our region - industrially, academically and culturally. What we have unearthed here at the Council is just the beginning. In the coming months, we will explore this connection further and continue to forge the path worn by many others before us. The Council is here as a facilitator to serve all of you as we take the region towards its next reinvention.” :: Audrey Russo, President & CEO, Pittsburgh Technology Council

Mastering the Arts
The 15 Minutes Gallery, in partnership with the Sirani Gallery, is proud to feature original etchings by some of the world’s foremost and well-known artists. Part of a limited series of posthumous prints, the works of Picasso, Renoir and Salvador Dali are available for purchase. All works are original works of the artists and include top-of-the-line framing. Works will be for sale through August 29, 2008.
Pablo Picasso
Between 1930 and 1937, Pablo Picasso published The Vollard Suite, his most famous print series. The piece "Sculptor and Model" is part of the original series.
In 1997, the Suite Vollard was recreated from the same plates and paper as the original in an edition of 300 pieces. The printing process of this series was done in such a way that it was almost identical with Picasso’s original. The paper used was created through a manual process, specially designed by Richard de Bass, in Ambert, France, a large paper factory with a historical reputation. The paper used in the original edition, as well as the quality, blanco narcisco, velin 200 glm2, imported Drissier Feinpapiere, was produced in the same factory. Plitt Druck supervised the technological development and production in Oberhausen. The piece is plate-signed by Picasso. Made under license from the Picasso family, each piece is stamped on the reverse.
Auguste Renoir
In 1919, a book was published by Ambroise Vollard on the life and work of Renoir: “La Vie et l’Oeuvre de Pierre Auguste Renoir.” At the turn of the century, Vollard was the most renowned dealer of art of his time. He discovered such artists are Cezanne, Matisse, and Vlaminck, just to name a few. The book was printed as a limited edition of 1,000; copper plates used for the book’s engravings were left forgotten in the basement of a country house just outside of Paris, France. After WWII, only six copies of the book remained in existence from the original edition of 1,000, which are now priceless. In 1986, long after the death of Vollard and Renoir, Vollard’s heirs discovered the copper plates and the result has now been made available. Most of these etchings were never printed or published until now.
Ambroise Vollard owns publishing rights as well as all of the copper plates used to print these Renoir engravings which were hand printed in France and are of outstanding quality and definition. Each is plate-signed by Renoir. Three Renoir pieces are available.
Salvador Dali
Six Salvador Dali etchings are available, all from his Fontaine suite. Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695) is the most famous French fabulist (akin to our Aesop) and probably the most widely read French poet of his time. La Fontaine's Fables are choice in every sense: utterly correct, balanced, exquisite in rhyme, natural and easy, droll, witty, knowing, sage, utterly French. They were an immediate success. Until recently, well-educated French people could quote hundreds of lines from La Fontaine.
